Doorways to Democracy: Where Art Meets Activism
About this event
In response to rising threats to democratic institutions, artist and activist Carrie Witkop of Chevy Chase, MD, has rallied 20 local artists and citizen-creators to present Doorways to Democracy, an art installation that turns salvaged church doors into powerful visual calls to civic action.
Each of the 20 antique doors, once part of the historic community, established in 1891, has been transformed into a work of art expressing actions citizens can take to protect democracy.
The event is free, but voluntary donations can be made to the League of Women Voters of Maryland (LWVMD).
Contact: Carrie Witkop, carriewitkop@gmail.com.
Parking: Available at Lake Frank (15211 Avery Rd), with signs directing visitors to the exhibit at Avery Lodge Historic Church. Overflow parking is at RedGate Park (14500 Avery Rd), with shuttle service to Lake Frank.
